What is a UGC creator?

A UGC creator is someone brands pay to film ad content in a natural, ‘homemade’ style. The key difference from an influencer: a UGC creator doesn’t need a big following, because the content runs in the brand’s ad campaigns. What they sell is the ability to make believable content. Access to their own audience isn’t part of the deal.

UGC creator vs influencer: which do you need?

They’re two different tools. An influencer brings reach and credibility with their community: you pay for a post on their channels. A UGC creator gives you content that you run in your own paid campaigns and scale with budget. If you need ad videos for Meta Ads or TikTok, a UGC creator is usually cheaper and more predictable. If you’re building awareness through a recommendation from someone people trust, you want an influencer. In influencer marketing campaigns, we often combine the two: the influencer posts on their own channels, and the brand also buys the rights to use the content in its ads.

How do you choose a good UGC creator?

Start with the portfolio: judge their previous videos (how natural they come across, their delivery, the editing, the first few seconds). A good fit with your target audience matters more than a pretty shot, because viewers need to believe this is someone ‘like them’. In UGC campaigns, we usually begin by testing 2-3 creators, then scale up work with the one whose videos deliver results in ads. Campaign data picks the creator.
