A content calendar is a publishing schedule for social media and your blog: what you publish, where, when and why, planned in advance. A good calendar links the dates to something more important: the topics, the formats and the purpose of each post. It turns a chaotic ‘we need to post something today’ into consistent, planned communication.
Why does a business need a content calendar?
Posting regularly works better than bursts of activity. Algorithms and audiences reward accounts that post predictably; an account that’s active for a week and then silent for a month has to rebuild its organic reach from scratch every time. A calendar also solves the ‘no ideas today’ problem: topics get decided once, calmly, which takes the daily pressure off. Finally, it lets you plan content around your goals (a launch, a season, a campaign).
How do you build a calendar that lasts?
Keep it simpler than your perfectionism suggests. Our social media management runs on recurring format series (such as ‘customer question’, behind the scenes or a how-to Reel) that fill the week without reinventing the wheel. We produce content in batches, ahead of time. Every few weeks we review the results (engagement rate, reach, saves) and replace the formats that aren’t performing. We cover how much you can realistically post without burning out your team in our article How often to post on Instagram.
