What is Meta Business Manager?

shape

Meta Business Manager (which Meta now calls a business portfolio) is the control centre for a company’s assets across Meta: Facebook Pages, Instagram accounts, ad accounts, the Meta Pixel and people’s permissions. The whole point is that the company’s assets belong to the company and stay separate from anyone’s personal profile.

Why does a business need Business Manager?

Organisation and continuity. Without it, the typical story goes like this: an employee sets up the ad account from their personal profile, then leaves, and the company loses access to its own campaigns, pixel and data history. With Business Manager, you grant and remove access through roles and add your agency as a partner without giving up ownership. It’s always clear who each asset belongs to. When we start Meta Ads campaigns, we sort out this structure first, because messy access sooner or later ends in a ban or a lost account.

The most common mistakes

A single admin (if they’re banned or lose their account, the business is paralysed, so always have at least two), assets scattered across the co-owners’ personal profiles, the agency set up as the owner of the ad account instead of a partner, and no business verification, which you may need at a larger scale. Sorting this out takes an hour. Recovering lost assets can take weeks.
